The circumvallation of Qufu's Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) ancient city recently became a member of the International Ancient Walls and Castles Alliance under the UCLG ASPAC Tourism Committee.

This alliance aims to enhance the preservation and utilization of ancient city walls worldwide, promote tourism and management, and facilitate cultural exchange and cooperation among city wall management entities globally.

With 18 member units from countries like China, Italy, the UK and Malaysia, the alliance has seen various historic city walls, including those of Xi'an, Kaifeng, Jingzhou, Xiangyang, Nanjing, Suzhou, Datong and Yuexiu Park in Guangzhou, join its ranks.

Located in Jining, East China's Shandong province, a popular 5A-level tourist destination, Qufu's Ming Dynasty Ancient City features over 60 cultural relics. It houses significant sites such as the Confucius Temple, Kong Family Mansion, and the former site of Qufu Normal School, all crucial pieces of the city's history.

In recent years, Jining authorities have increased funding to protect the Ming Dynasty Ancient City, aiming to preserve cultural relics such as the Sankong Scenic Area (the Temple and Cemetery of Confucius and the Kong Family Mansion) and improve the environment. Initiatives include restoring the moat surrounding the Ming Dynasty Ancient City.
